Skincare advice for a winter wedding

A winter wedding at Gosfield

In the winter, your skin will have different needs than in the summer or spring. It’s important to tailor your skincare routine to the time of year that you are holding your wedding to ensure that your skin looks fresh and glowing in your wedding photos.

Exfoliate

Exfoliating is key in the winter, as skin can easily dry out thanks to the sharp contrast between the cold winter air and indoor heating. BHAs and AHAs are two wonderful chemical exfoliants that will leave your skin clear and smooth. AHA is great for mature skin, as it helps with the appearance of wrinkles and age spots. In comparison, BHAs are brilliant for unclogging pores and for clearing up breakouts.

Keep skin hydrated

The dry winter air can lead to skin becoming more dry, and less able to repair itself. These unforgiving winter conditions make it especially important to moisturise, so be sure to invest in a thick moisturiser. Layering your skin with extra-moisturising products, such as a rich serum, hydrating gel, or a natural oil (try jojoba or sweet almond oil), can also go a long way in helping your skin retain its moisture and glow. Be sure to look for a serum with hyaluronic acid in, as this superstar ingredient will give your skin a massive moisture-boost.

A humidifier can help keep moisture in the air, which can mean wonderful things for your skin. A humidifier will help your skin retain moisture, leaving it looking glowing and fresh. In addition, as tempting as it is to take long, warm showers in the winter months, doing so can strip your skin of its moisture, so try to keep your showertime limited.

Eat well and exercise

The key to beautiful skin all year round is a healthy eating and exercise regime. Eating well, consuming a lot of fresh greens, fruit, and veggies, will help boost skin radiance and clarity.

In addition, a diet high in processed foods has been linked to breakouts, as blogger Anna Marie explains: “In February 2013, a new study published in the Journal of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics found that diets high in carbohydrates and processed sugars were associated with acne.”

Boosting your skin-health with supplements can also go a long way: focus on omega-3s for clear, glowing skin and milk thistle, which can help detoxify the liver: leading to improved dark circles and improved dry skin.

Exercise is another great winter beauty booster. Exercise boosts circulation, which leaves skin glowing. Exercise also makes you sweat, which helps free clogged up pores (just be sure to wash your face after a workout). Exercise also balances hormones and reduces cortisol levels, making it great for fighting adult acne.
