Advice for accessorising your hair for your wedding

When styling your hair for your wedding, will you go classic with a veil, or will you branch out with some quirkier hair accessories? We explore our favourite bridal hair accessories, and show you how to accessorise your hair perfectly for your wedding day.

Plan your hairstyle first

Different hair accessories will work with different hairstyles, so it’s a good idea to be settled on a hairstyle before you check out hair accessories. It can also be a good idea to consider how they will work with your dress and your other accessories, such as your jewellery.

You should also consider which kind of accessories work with your hair, as Bridal Guide Mag notes “If you’re blessed with long, thick hair, consider bigger hair accessories that can stand up to the weight, rather than daintier ones, which will be less noticeable”.

Consider your colour scheme

When picking hair accessories, be sure to think about your shade of dress and to consider whether silver, gold, or crystal hair accessories will work best with the hue of your chosen gown. You may also like to take into account the overall colour scheme of your wedding and think about how you may like to tie in the shade of your hair accessories with the colour of the flowers in your bouquet, or your wider wedding colour scheme.

Go floral

Accessorising your hair with fresh flowers is always on trend, from single white roses to elaborate floral crowns, there are endless options to choose from.

Twisting some small flowers into a chic up-do adds some bohemian charm to your bridal look. In addition, a single flower (in a shade that matches the flowers in your bouquet) looks effortlessly pretty. Look for flowers that are seasonal and that suit the colour scheme of your wedding, for a well put together bridal look.

Floral crowns have been making big waves on the bridal beauty scene for many years now, they’re an enchanting way to finish off your look. Floral crowns are bold enough to wear with a simple dress and you can easily style yourself without any other accessories.

If you’re going for a subtle and understated look, you can go for a wreath of small flowers, intertwined with delicate crystals or pearls. In contrast, if you’re of a bold character then why not go for a crown adorned with large flowers, in an array of colourful shades?

Go classic with a veil

Your wedding will be the only time in your life that you can accessorise your hair with a beautiful, flowing veil. When choosing your veil, think about how the veil will work with your dress; it’s ideal if you have your dress already picked-out, so that you can try your veil on with it. Veils tend to look best when matched to your shade of dress, so take this into account when shopping for your own.

Short veils, such as birdcages and blushers give a gorgeous, retro feel and they will go well with simple dresses, as well as more elaborate ones. In contrast, longer veils will give you that classic bridal look, shop for ballet, cathedral, and chapel styles.

The perfect accessories

When choosing your bridal hair accessories, there are a few key things to consider, such as your shade of dress and your overall look. Have fun playing around with your bridal style and find what works for you.
