Should I choose an out-of-season wedding date?

Summer is almost over for one year, and with it comes the end of yet another exciting wedding season. There’s a reason why the spring and summer months are referred to as wedding season. While there’s certainly no guarantee of good weather, a couple’s quest for a picture perfect big day is often the main draw of booking a wedding from May to September.

Tying the knot outside of these days, or out-of-season, however unlocks a number of advantages. Here, we discuss just some of the benefits of choosing an out-of-season wedding date.

Save money

Marrying during wedding season doesn’t come without its costs. The cost of your wedding venue and other wedding services inflates during the spring and summer months. With this in mind, opting for an out-of-season wedding could provide the boost your wedding budget needs.

The money saved can be spent in other areas to ensure you have the dream big day you’ve always envisaged. Alternatively, the extra cash could be used to indulge in a more luxurious honeymoon.

Do be aware that not every out-of-season wedding date will provide the cash-boost you need. There are many dates that are popular even outside of wedding season as Altar Albums, formerly known as BrideBox, explains:

“February and December are also in-demand months to tie the knot thanks to Valentine’s Day and Christmas. Therefore, the cheapest months for your wedding would be January, March, April and November. During these months, vendors are typically more available and less expensive. If you’re planning on getting married indoors and the weather won’t impact your day much, then having your wedding during this off-season is a great way for you to save on your overall budget.”

Add extra romance

Autumn and winter months may be crisper, but there’s a certain romance to marrying in the cooler weather. If you’re lucky enough for it to snow on your out-of-season wedding date, you’ll be in for an even more magical day.

With the right autumn or winter weather conditions, even the largest venue can be made cosier and more intimate. Who doesn’t feel romantic in a candle-lit setting, or curled up with a loved one in front of a log fire when it’s cold outside?

Getting married around Christmas time – just like Mr & Mrs MacLeod did here at Gosfield Hall – comes with another perk. Couples marrying around Christmas tend to spend less on decorations, as the venue is already spectacularly dressed for the festive season.

Enjoy more choice

The most popular wedding dates are booked years in advance. Most of these dates fall in the warmer months, with dates in June and September hot property. With that, there’s tough competition amongst couples wanting to get married during wedding season.

Picking a wedding date is no easy task. There’s so much to think about, with the availability of your chosen venue a prime consideration. When planning an out-of-season wedding however you’ll find fewer restrictions.

Venues and suppliers tend to have more availability during out-of-season dates, which means you’re more likely to bag your first choice supplier on a date that suits you.

Great news for guests

An out-of-season wedding date isn’t just great news for you, it will be welcomed by your guests too. The cost of travel and accommodation reaches its peak during the summer months, with the school holidays adding more of a premium. With an out-of-season wedding, your guests can take advantage of lower cost travel and hotels.

Guests are also more likely to attend your out-of-season celebration as there’s less chance of being double booked for a special occasion. In addition to this, guests may find it easier to get the time off work to really enjoy your wedding day.
