What spot? Emergency skincare advice certain to come in handy

Achieving that coveted bridal glow is something every bride-to-be is eager to do. It is after all not just about the wedding dress, accessories, hair and makeup, true bridal beauty is only possible with a good base to work with. Getting your skin ship-shape is possible before your wedding, whatever your skincare challenges. But even the best preparation can’t protect you from some last-minute skin problems.

Here we reveal the common skincare emergencies that can strike and exactly how to handle them so you look your best on your big day.

Under-eye bags

Eye bags occur for a number of reasons, as well as naturally. Lack of sleep is a primary cause of under-eye puffiness and redness. This means they’re particularly common with brides dealing with sleepless nights due to wedding planning. Hot and humid weather can also result in more visible under-eye bags. If you’re expecting a heatwave on your big day, be sure to follow this last-minute advice.

If you wake up with noticeable eye bags on your wedding day, head to the fridge. A cool compress or even a couple of slices of frozen cucumber can be applied to bags to improve their appearance in a matter of minutes. Steeped then frozen teabags also work, with the caffeine they contain known to reduce inflammation.

Spots and pimples

Surprise spots and pimples can be triggered by the simplest of things, from dirty makeup brushes and pillowcases to lack of sleep and chatting on the phone too much (your phone screen is likely to be the cause of those cheek breakouts).

You can get rid of spots and other blemishes fast however by following these simple rules. Avoid picking or even touching spots. Touching your pimples can exacerbate their appearance and cause the healing process to slow dramatically. You should also avoid home treatments, and invest in a tried and tested spot treatment.

Most spot treatments are fast-acting, with ingredients like salicylic acid and benzoyl peroxide reducing the size, swelling and redness of the stubbornest spots, without drying the skin.

Remember great skin starts within

The key to looking great on your wedding day is feeling great, and like most things, beautiful skin starts within. Make looking after your mind a priority in the run-up to your wedding day and get a handle on stress with this advice from Brides:

“From the top of your head to the tips of your toes, there’s no end to the beauty bummers headed your way if you don’t get your wedding-planning stress under control… Excess anxiety can also disrupt your sleep, which in turn can lead to a grey, decidedly un-bridal complexion. The fix? Do what you can to chill out, whether that means hitting a yoga class after work or guided meditation apps such as Headspace and Omvana.”
