How to find the perfect bridal shoes

Whilst your wedding dress will no doubt be the star of the show, it’s your accessories that will help to complete your signature bridal look.

Your bridal shoes will influence your dress design too, with the hem of your dress defined by the height and style of your shoe choice.

With this in mind, you’ll need to finalise your shoes, along with your wedding lingerie, before your first dress fitting.

To help you on your way to realising your dream look, our experts are here to share their top tips for finding the perfect pair.

Consider the logistics

Practical makes perfect so it certainly pays to think about the ins and outs of your wedding day before starting your shoe shop.

Most couples pick their venues during the early days of wedding planning so by the time you get down to the business of shopping for bridal shoes, you should be well versed on the terrain of where you’ll spend your ceremony and reception.

Rock My Wedding details what you should consider to ensure your choice of wedding shoes is a wise one:

“The flooring of your venue and any journey in between. Is it carpeted or hard floor? Will there be cobbles, stones, or pavers outside? Will you be walking on grass, will it be muddy? Are you having a beach wedding? All of these things will have an impact on whether you choose stiletto heels, block heels or flats.”

Opt for comfort

Whilst style is important, comfort is a priority. Consider what height of heel you can comfortably and confidently handle.

Even if you are well trained in walking in heels, taking on a night out in some sky-high, strappy stilettos is very different to enjoying a day-long wedding celebration in all your finery.

These days comfort doesn’t mean sacrificing style. There are a number of comfy wedding shoes out there that hit every mark on the bridal style front.

Go for two pairs

You may think that it’s challenging enough to find just one pair of beautiful bridal shoes, but going for two is certain to ensure satisfaction from the minute you walk down the aisle to the moment you hang up those dancing shoes.

Many brides go for a dressy, heeled pair for the ceremony and wear comfortable but chic flats, timeless Converse, or cute kitten heels for the reception.

If you do intend to go for two pairs of shoes, make sure you take both styles to your dress fittings so your hem can be altered accordingly.

Make a statement

The sheer range of bridal shoes available may make it difficult to choose but it also lets you be extra creative with your look.

You can choose to keep your shoes traditional by opting for a shade that matches your dress, usually either a white, ivory, or cream style.

Alternatively, you can make a real statement with a colourful pair of bridal shoes. Bright, bold wedding shoes are a great way to showcase your personality or a favourite colour in a subtle way if you are wearing a floor skimming gown.

Alternatively, if you’re going for a shorter wedding dress, you’ll get to show off your quirky choice with pride.

Don’t forget the rest of your bridal accessories. Bridal bags that provide style and storage in one are so in, check out our guide to bridal clutches for further advice.
