All seasons are magical to have a wedding, but there’s something about Christmas that makes it just that little bit more magical!
Sophie and Dean got married here with us on the 28th December last year… And what a lovely day they had!
However, it took a lot of planning, organising and countless hours of looking a Pinterest with her mum to get the perfect day they had dreamed of for over 10 years having been to a wedding at Gosfield Hall prior.
Their journey began when Dean popped the question to Sophie in Las Vegas at the Eiffel Tower restaurant. Dean had called and planned it all before their visit so we they had the best seats in the house overlooking the Bellagio water fountains. Straight after he had popped the question they came over with a chocolate dessert and all congratulated them… It sounds like it was perfect!
After that, the planning began, the first step was securing Gosfield Hall, as they had known for years this was the place for them, especially at Christmas! Knowing this was the season they wanted, it made it very easy for a theme for the wedding… Modern, gold Christmas wedding.
After months of planning, it was now complete, with everything decided and ready for the big day. All that was left was to wait…
The morning of the wedding was soon upon them both… With everything well and truly on the way to being ready, all that was left was for Sophie and Dean to get themselves ready too…
“Dean looked so smart in his handmade, fitted black tailored suit with his unique detailing he had chosen. He had gold Gucci cuff-links with a ice blue stone that we had chosen together. We both wore Creed fragrances, his and hers Creed Aventus. Dean also had Russell and Bromley Leather black shoes.”
“I went quite Art Deco with a completely beaded dress by Eliza Jane Howell, purchased from Morgan Davis Bridal in Hitchin. I had followed Eliza online for some time and knew one of her designs would be the one for me. I also had Jimmy Choo Shoes!
Dean had his suit handmade for him by Cad & the Dandy, London. All I knew was the colour we had choose, I let him have full control of the design and style. It was Black with Gold silk details inside.”
“Dean had brought me a gold diamond necklace to match my engagement ring… My parents had given me a gold bracelet that my mum had on her wedding day, that she had forgotten about and when she was clearing the loft, she found her wedding dress and it was hanging from it, still as good as new. It was meant to be, so they gave me that and added a special horseshoe charm with a gold heart on it, as I wanted a horseshoe to symbolise my grandads jockey/horsing back ground from Newmarket.”
With Sophie in her exquisite dress and Dean looking dapper in his custom made suit, there was just one thing left to do… Tie the knot!
Before Sophie left her Bridal Suite, we called Dad in to see her before he walked her down the aisle…
“Julia Walters, from Fairytale Photography did our wedding pictures. I had met her at a Wedding fair at Knebworth House, Hertfordshire. We chatted and I knew then she would be perfect for us, very easy going, listened completely to what we wanted, didn’t get in the way, everyone loved her and she produced the most amazing pictures. We really couldn’t have asked for anyone better.”
With the pictures done, the tears wiped away, it was then on to the ceremony in the Queens Gallery…
“I’d met our violinist, Hayley Pomfrett, at a wedding fair. I knew she was perfect, as both our mums came with me and she had them in tears with how good she was. I took her card and couldn’t wait to show Dean her video online. He said she looked really good, so we booked straight away. She was a superstar and really added to the perfect atmosphere.”
With the hard bit out the way, it was smiles all around as the newlywed Mr and Mrs Edgar walked back down the aisle!
From there, Sophie, Dean and their guests made their way downstairs for welcome drinks and canapes and to get some more lovely pictures taken…
After all the photos were taken, with the remaining glimpses of the snow, it was then onto their wedding breakfast in the Ballroom…
“I designed the Centrepieces so they were unique to us, then added the green fern. We had gold sugared almonds for that element of classic tradition. Each lady had a Rose Quartz crystal and the man had a Tiger’s eye crystal with a little note with the meanings to them. The children had a gold box full of gifts, chocolate pennies and gold selfie props.”
“We went for a traditional Roast dinner for our mains… Everything tasted amazing and there was plenty of it. Everyone said how lovely the food was.”

After dinner had been well and truly polished off, it was onto the speeches!…
With full bellies and aching jaws from laughing, Mr and Mrs Edgar and their guests then heading on downstairs to finish of the last of the ceremonial traditions… Cutting the cake and the First Dance…
“The cake was a mixture of a few cakes we had seen on Pinterest and our lovely, very talented friend Kelly made it for us. We had 5 tiers of white and gold cake, each tier was a different flavor. Coffee, Vanilla, Chocolate and Lemon.”
“We choose Leona Lewis – The First Time Ever I saw your face from her Spirit Album. We had always liked the song and with Leona’s cover it was even better. Dean wasn’t looking forward to the first dance so we had a few practices after a few nights out but no dance routine.”
With the First Dance done, it was onto getting the party started! I think you’ll agree, it looks like they had the most amazing day!
We asked Sophie and Dean;
Based on your own experience, give us some top tips:
“Don’t worry about things as it all comes together and the day just flows with a very relaxed atmosphere. The hardest part was sorting out rooms and family but once that’s sorted out enjoy every minute of the planning.”
If you could do it all again, you’d…
“Do everything the same. We loved every single minute of it…”
From all of us here at Gosfield Hall, we wish you a long and happy life together and were so pleased we could be part of your special day!
