While summer was all about keeping guests cool, come the autumn and winter months, marrying couples will have the opposite problem! The winter season is a magical time to tie the knot, with Gosfield Hall looking particularly spectacular with a sprinkling of snow – take a look for yourself here – but it isn’t half cold!
As well as plummeting temperatures, the unpredictability of the great British weather really comes into its own. There are however several ways you can be prepared and keep your guests extra toasty on your winter wedding day…
Prep guests for the reality of a winter wedding
Sharing a dress code is one thing many couples choose to do via their wedding invites, and it’s a great way to set expectations for your winter wedding day too.
While you can’t of course predict the weather, advising guests to add an extra layer if part of your big day will be outdoors (the winter weather can provide a beautiful backdrop for wedding photos) is recommended.
Encourage them to cosy up with a hot choc
Another perk of marrying in winter is the intimate and cosy vibe that makes weddings feel extra special. That log fire will work a treat at your winter wedding and so too will offering warm drinks for your guests to enjoy as Jenna Miller, Creative Director of Here Comes the Guide, explains:
“Winter weddings may be cold. But, wintery signature cocktails and drinks are a huge PRO that will warm everyone right up! Pay homage to the winter season with mulled wine, spiked apple cider, or hot-buttered rum. And there’s no better way to treat your guests than with a hot cocoa or coffee bar. Offer customised wedding mugs as favours, peppermint sticks for stirring, and miniature doughnuts for dipping. We’ll say cheers to that!”
Here at Gosfield Hall, we make it easy for our couples and their guests to cosy up with something chocolatey. Our hot chocolate station is available to add to your day and is perfect for warming your guests and serving up a helping of pure luxury.
Winterproof your wedding favours
Wedding favours are more than just a thoughtful way to thank your guests. They can be practical too! Wraps, scarves, woolly hats and gloves are fantastic favours for winter weddings, and can even be presented to your guests with a cute phrase or two. “To have and to hold in case you get cold” is a particular favourite!
Bring on the blankets at your winter wedding
If the budget won’t quite stretch to a stylish wrap or scarf for every guest, providing a basket of blankets for guests to drape themselves in is an equally warming touch. Blankets and other cosy goodies can also be used to create your own dedicated lounge area, giving guests a space to chill out without feeling the cold.
Design your menu with the season in mind
